The Lorax Project will be held at Parkland high school from June 11-28. This program is designed specifically for 2nd grade students. The Lorax Project will focus on conservation. Students will identify and demonstrate how to use, conserve, and dispose of natural resources and materials.
Week 1's Objective: Recycling
The students are in the process of brainstorming ideas for a short commercial about recycling.
Students will be responding the to writing prompt "Why is it important to recycle?" using the free iPad app iDiary.
Students write an Acrostic poem about things that can be recycled.
Students sort household items based on the number inside the recycling symbol.

Week 2's Objective: Water Conservation
Students illustrate ways in which they can conserve water at home.
Student work in groups to create imaginary cities in which they have to come up with rules on how to regulate the city's water supply.
The students review the water cycle and create a visual display.
Using the iPads, students listen to the Story Chime story about recycling titled In the Land of Stinkmucky .
